Same street, same two men, a few hours later — the quiet now dusk-red instead of violet.
This is the companion to our Silent Balcony Parade print: the identical architecture, the identical pair of anonymous men on their stacked balconies, caught at a different hour. Magritte used that same doubling trick elsewhere — in The Mysteries of the Horizon (1955), three identical men stand at dusk, each facing a different way, each under his own separate moon. Our pair borrows the device at a smaller scale: two men, one shared sky between them instead of one each.
Where that print holds a cool indigo dusk, this one turns the sky scarlet — the same clothesline below as the only sign anyone else lives on this street, the same quiet distance between two men who could almost hear each other if either spoke.
Hang them separately for a single still moment, or hang them together as two hours of the same evening, left to right.
A reading corner, a hallway that could use one good pause — alone, or beside its cooler twin, for the full hour.
