Calm Buddha

A halo isn’t a sun painted gold — in Buddhist sculpture it’s a disc of light standing in for a mind that’s finished burning.

Haloes behind a Buddha’s head — a nimbus, or across the whole body, an aureole — run through Buddhist sculpture from the earliest Gandharan carvings onward: never a literal sky object, always a stand-in for the radiance an awakened mind is said to give off.

This is the most symmetrical print in the trio — the red disc sits dead-centre behind the head, the face turned fully forward, eyes closed in the same half-open meditative stillness every Buddha image wears. A thin coral line marks the plinth below; everything else is deep, even blue.

Centre it above a bed or alone in a hallway — anywhere the point is the symmetry itself, with nothing competing against it.
