Hokusai painted Mount Fuji with only three colours and left every person out of the frame — the mountain alone was enough.
In 1831 Hokusai began the Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, and one print in the set — Red Fuji — stands apart: no village, no traveller, nothing but the mountain the Japanese have called sacred since long before Shinto had a name for the feeling, home to the kami Konohanasakuya-hime. His contemporary Hiroshige found his own version of reverence in a single pine at Ueno, whose one looped branch stood in for an entire moon.
Celestial Mountain Vista gives the peak nearly the whole frame — the largest, closest mountain in this set — with one broad tree standing where Hiroshige's pine once stood, a blush meadow replacing the shrine steps, and the moon tucked in close beside the summit rather than framed through a branch. Still just the two of them: the tree, and the thing it's been planted to watch.
Where it lives: a bedroom that wants calm before sleep, a meditation corner, any wall that could use less noise.
Printed as fine art giclée with special 12-colour printing on luxurious matte, eco-friendly paper. Available in 30×45 cm (12×18 in), 40×60 cm (16×24 in), and 60×90 cm (24×36 in), each finished with a thick white gallery margin. Titled and signed by the artist in the white margin (signature printed) — open edition, never numbered. Sold unframed, ready for your own frame.
